The Position – Locum GP VMO Emergency Department

Cowra has a 3 bed ED (1 x resus bay) with a high presentation rate of older people, aboriginal people and the usual acute and chronic medical conditions, MVAs, farm, industrial and sporting injuries, alcohol/drug related issues, chest pains etc.

  • 1530 Monday 27th February until 0730 Monday 6th March 2023
  • Increased Rate to $3000 per 24 hour period
  • GP VMO – capable of managing approx. 30 presentations daily as well as ~3-4 calls overnight. Must have completed eMeds training.
  • Off-site accommodation – https://accommodationcowra.com.au/131-kendal-street
  • Travel and Car Hire booked by agency

This position is best suited for a GP VMO with the following experience ..

  • Emergency, Trauma, Basic Life Support, Simple suturing, ECG interpretation, Catheterisation, sound clinical judgement and communicate appropriately
  • Sole doctor On-call 24/7.  6 hour fatigue break provided each weekday morning from 7:30am to 1:30pm.  In cases of major trauma or patients requiring intubation, the local on call GP anaesthetist can be contacted for assistance.  On Saturdays & Sundays, relief is provided by another doctor from 7:30am to 6:30pm, with main doctor returning to ED from 5:30pm to 10:00pm and then on-call until 7:30am next day
  • GP with Emergency Department Experience. Must have completed Rural eMeds training. Doctors need to have wide variety of experience in Emergency Departments, working with one FLEC (First Line Emergency Care) trained RN

The Location – Cowra, NSW

Cowra is a small town in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. It is the largest population centre and the council seat for the Cowra Shire, with a population of 9,863.

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this Locum GP VMO Emergency Department position, applicants must have Specialist Registration with AHPRA and complete all required paperwork. Applicants must also have the below to be considered for this position:

  • Rural eMeds required prior to starting placement
  • NSW working with children required
  • Needs to have refer and request billing rights under Medicare
